Mike Okun Photography

Mikhail (Mike) Okun was born in Moscow, Russia in 1978. At the age of 3 his parents with his older brother and baby Mike in tow immigrated to Boston Massachusetts. He began taking pictures with his dad at a very young age. His love for photography really took off when he discovered urban exploration at the age of 13.

Mike spent countless hours exploring abandoned buildings, homes and subterranean tunnels taking many pictures of these explorations. His fascination with urban exploration derived from his love of old architecture and the textures that are found in desolate and distressed locations.

Later, in his early twenties, he discovered his love for plants and the textures of nature. Today Mike photographs everything from architecture to plant life.

His parents, both artists have contributed to Mike’s creativity and eye for detail in his photography. His father is Alexander Okun a well known Stage Designer who after his arrival in the United States continued his theatrical career as well as becoming an Architectural Designer with more than 60 major projects under his belt. His mother Lucy Okun is a Scene Painter who brought many of Alexander’s stage designs to life.

Since 1989 Mike has resided in Miami Florida, he works as the Manager of Training and Employee Development for ACA Financial and has a small web development business on the side. Mike and his wife Olesya are expecting their fist baby in early January! He continues taking pictures as often as he can and is always looking for an interesting location to shoot.
